I was on Xanax for my extreme anxiety problems, my doctor told me only to take it when I desperately HAD to…But I felt like that was ALL of the time, So I began to break my pills in half, in quarters as I started popping them every hour… I knew they could be addictive but I didn’t know how STRONGLY… I was out of control, I just wanted to sleep and feel my Xanax high… But when I didn’t want to take a pill, I would start to shake and have these “flutterings” in my chest and twitches in my neck… So I just HAD to keep on taking it…But one day I thought I had a positive preg test, so I quit cold turkey…I was up for 4 DAYS STRAIGHT… I was shaking, started to “see things”(which I still do, 6 months later) such as spiders, people, and scary images…)…YOU HAVE TO WEAN yourself off of this drug the best you can…taper off gradually…Withdrawal from this drug can be dangerous causing seizures, etc… Withdrawal can vary from person to person because of the many different doses you can take…Every 6 hours the body withdraws from Xanax, it is a short-acting drug which makes it more addicting… Very FEW people can kick the drug by themselves…The only reason I was able to, is because my boyfriend is a doctor and he guided me through it and made me feel safe. You can die from Xanax withdrawal. A slow taper with a long acting Benzodiazepine like Valium can prevent that.
